District 12 Goings-On

    March 21 is the last Common Council meeting until after the election, but Alder Vedder has been maintaining a weekly blog which will keep you informed!

  • Per City News & Updates: “All of the City of Madison’s drinking water wells that are currently operating meet the proposed EPA standards. Well 15 has been shut down since 2019 due to PFAS contamination, and will not come back into use until the City installs a treatment system to remove the PFAS from the water.”

  • The City of Madison is collaborating with Dane County to plan for and design a purpose-built shelter facility that will serve primarily men in our community who experience homelessness. The facility, to be built at 1904 Bartillon Drive, will be Madison’s first purpose-built shelter. Please join the City of Madison, Dane County and Porchlight, Inc at one of the three upcoming public information meetings to get an overview of the project, pre-design concepts and information on next steps.

  • There are three potential locations in District 12: 1st Street, Oscar Mayer, and Airport.

    Three other potential locations have been identified: Near East Side (still fairly close to District 12), Downtown, and Campus.

  • Madison Public Library is planning a new library and community facility at Reindahl Park. The proposed “Imagination Center at Reindahl Park” will not be an ordinary library. It will be a transformational space designed and directed by the northeast Madison community. The Imagination Center at Reindahl Park will be a place for the community to gather and learn. It will be a safe place for social interaction, civic engagement, and cultural expression. The center will focus on holistic health and expanding economic opportunities for library visitors.

  • With private funding secured, construction is set to begin in September 2023 with an expected completion date of February 2025.

  • The 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard will receive F-35s in early May.

    The Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs (WDMA) has receiving a $798,000 grant from the Department of Defense to conduct community outreach, noise mitigation planning, and prepare for the F-35s arrival at Truax Field, per Senator Tammy Baldwin.

  • Wednesday, March 29 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm: An Open House has been scheduled to bring together residents and staff from various City agencies. It will take place at Madison College, Truax Main Building, 1701 Wright Street, Room D1630.

  • Monday, March 27 at 6:00 pm: Madison Parks is holding a public information meeting for the facility expansion project. The design team and City staff will review the proposed addition's configuration and exterior treatment and answer project questions. The meeting format is virtual, and you can register by clicking here.

    Wednesday, March 29 at 4:30 pm: The design team and City staff will present the project to the Urban Design Commission for informational review. The meeting agenda is available on the UDC webpage, located here.
